Today I wanted to take this opportunity for this week’s video to have a bit of a rant. Working with a number of clients as we do over the period of an entire season and having worked with literally hundreds of teams. There’s been a bit of a common theme emerge and it’s something that I find particularly frustrating given how I approached my own sport.

At Athlete Assessments when we work with clients one of the really critical models we refer to is the Circle of Safety. The Circle of Safety is not a concept we developed ourselves, it is taken from models such as Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, and it is also taken from a lot of the work Simon Sinek has been doing, and the book that he wrote Leaders Eat Last.
There are so many different Specialist Sports Coaches that can make up the coaching staff in modern sport, like strength and conditioning coaches and specific positional coaches. How do you see the role of these Specialist Sports Coaches in developing the team and its culture?
Coaches often have huge problems dealing with athlete confidence. In your experience, is confidence something that should be developed? Or something else?

Watch the interview that was broadcast live on the ABC 24 News Channel. Bo Hanson appeared on the Weekend Breakfast Show on 2 March 2013 to discuss player behavior in professional sports and profiling of athletes, and it provides a useful introduction to the work of Athlete Assessments.
Recorded during an ABC TV Interview, in this video Bo Hanson discusses who Athlete Assessments have worked with in their past decade in sport.
Athlete Assessments has a series of videos in which Bo Hanson answers questions we receive from our clients and contacts. The most interesting topics are covered from a wide range of issues. Benefit from these insights and you are also very welcome to submit your question too.
