“I always find the the sessions stimulates such valuable conversations. The topics interest and affect us all and the content is so well researched. Session presenters are coming from all over the globe reflecting the global nature of the industry and the organisation.”

NASSM is actively involved in assisting and supporting professionals working in the fields of sport, leisure and recreation. Their purpose is to stimulate, promote and encourage study, research, scholarly writing, and professional development in sport management – both theoretical and applied aspects.

The 2019 Annual NASSM Conference will be held in New Orleans and is a forum for sport management faculty, students and practitioners to share current research, industry best practices, and teaching innovations. It also provides opportunities for professional networking.

The organization was established to keep professionals up-to-date with the latest information affecting sport marketing, future directions in management, employment perspectives, management competencies, leadership, sport and the law, personnel management, facility management, organizational structures, fund raising, and conflict resolution.

The 2019 conference tackles so many topics and each one is backed with the research papers of the presenter. All of the presentations look fantastic and it’s going to be hard for conference-goers to choose, but this years’ topics include; the impact of technology and gender on individual sports, Super Bowl or bust! Teaching guidelines for practical experience, changing the conversation: athletes, power-dynamics, and well-being; and the way social media is used to motivate sports fans.

The NASSM Conference targets sport management faculty, students and practitioners from the United States and Canada but also welcomes international attendees from around the world.

Laren says, “I’m really looking forward to immersing myself in the conference. There’s so much history and life in New Orleans. In the evenings, I’ll certainly be sampling the local food and soaking up the atmosphere in the most walkable city in the world.”
